During pregnancy there are certain products and ingredients you are recommended to avoid so I have had to remove some items from my skincare routine. I am a BIG fan of retinol but this is a total no no for use during pregnancy so I have had to hide them away, there was a lot to put away.
I have also stopped using Paulas Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant which I love to use to keep my pores clear because it contains Salicylic Acid which is also not allowed during pregnancy. I have cut out any Glycolic Acid products and replaced them with Lactic Acid as this is safe to use. The Lactic Acid product I use occasionally when I feel like I need it is Ren Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic.
So let’s start with my morning routine. I cleanse with Skinceuticals Gentle Cleanser and follow with Skinceuticals Equalizing Toner. While my skin is still slightly damp I use my holy grail vitamin C product also by Skinceuticals, CE Ferulic. I ran out of this a while ago and only recently bought a new one and I can see the difference in my skin. It is so much calmer, clearer and more glowy when I use this product. Highly recommend although it is pricey it is worth it in my opinion. Next I use a hyaluronic acid serum, I like a lot of different hydrating serums but at the moment I am using Medik8 Liquid Peptides and I am enjoying it, I seal the serum in with Obagi Hydrate and always always always use La Roche Posay Hydrating Cream SPF 50 every day as my last step.
My night time routine consists of just 4 products. Cleanse, eye cream, serum and moisturiser. I cleanse with Dr Sam Flawless Cleanser and my eye cream is The Eye Concentrate by La Mer, the jury is out on the need for an eye cream… I usually when not ‘with child’ have botox injections but my last treatment has well and truly worn off and I do suffer with lines round my eyes which even a gorgeous to use eye cream by La Mer is having no effect on. I really cannot decide if eye cream is really worth the investment but as I can’t get Botox for a good few months I think I will use up the eye cream in the hope that at least the lines won’t get worse until I can get treated again. My night serum is another old favourite of mine. Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair (ANR), its hydrating and sinks in well and is just an all round great serum with no active ingredients so even though I would happily use this all the time it is especially useful to me at the moment. I really like Dr Sam’s Flawless Moisturiser a non greasy but rich hydrating lotion, she says it’s like a hug for your skin and it really is!
I have ordered Bakuchiol Peptides by Medik8 from Look Fantastic which is a plant based natural ingredient that mimics the job of Retinol without any harsh side effects and no harm caused during pregnancy and breast feeding. The results do take longer to show but apparently with continued use you can get good results. I do not have much left of Liquid Peptides so my plan is to switch ANR to the AM and use Bakuchiol in the evening.
I will be sure to report back on this change in my fairly simple skincare routine.
Thank you as always for reading.
