I am currently having a glass of wine while my big boys eat a bowl of cereals, it is 9pm and I am in no hurry to send them to bed. You might be wondering if I have lost my mind but I am in full on holiday mode. In the UK teachers belonging to the NEU union are striking ‘in pursuit of a fully funded above inflation pay rise’ and I am not mad about it. Firstly they indeed deserve a pay rise, I have to look after two 6 year olds daily and the thought of being in charge of 25 of them fills me with dread! Secondly this honestly does feel like two days of holiday for me. We have no reason to get up and rush out of the door, with no school run and no football. I can enjoy a slow morning with my boys and I am so excited.
The other reason I decided to pour myself a glass of wine is because today I had Miller’s 12 month Development Check. Just add it to the list of things that make me nervous. Is he developing as he should? Is he eating enough? Is he communicating enough? As it turns out I had no need to be nervous as he is developing just as expected. The only issue that arose was that I have Miller in quite a strict feeding and nap routine which I started after I finished breast feeding to encourage him to sleep well at night. But apparently I am giving him more formula bottles than necessary, he really only needs 3 bottles a day plus breakfast, lunch and dinner. I must admit I was concerned that he wasn’t eating well enough at lunch and dinner time and now I realise this is of course why. I give him a bottle at 7am, 9am, 2pm, 4pm and 7pm. He loves his milk so he is going to have to get used to just 2 bottles in the day and 1 before bed. At 9am, 2pm and 7pm. She even advised me to not buy any more formula as he can start having cows milk at 12 months.
I am OBSESSED with sleep. Sleep anxiety is a thing. The health visitor doing his check congratulated me on his sleep being quite good so I will not be OK if his sleep pattern changes for the worst. But she did give me some ideas of meals to try for him so I am going to cut down the milk and hopefully he will just take more food and everything will figure itself out. Fingers crossed for a good nights sleep please.
Just in case you were wondering my wine of choice this evening is Baron Herzog White Zinfandel Rose and it is very nice indeed. I got it from Ocado for Β£14 which I think might be a bit pricey but I balanced it out with L’Oreal Revitalift Eye Cream on offer for Β£6.50 so that is a reason to celebrate don’t you think?
